Welcome to Knox Roadrunners Inc.

COVID19 UPDATE (1st February ’21) – All club runs have now resumed with COVID safe practices in place.

Our new run calendar (6th Feb to 5th June) is available for download under the Calendar TAB.

Do you need some support and encouragement for your next running challenge?

At Knox Road Runners our members pursue goals in the company of like minded members running at a compatible pace.

Every Saturday morning early without fail (Pandemics excepted) we tackle a course of between 10 and 35km, with options to run shorter if need be.

We have runners that can do sub 3hr marathons, and beginners and recovering athletes that run much much slower.

We value fellowship over performance, but celebrate our successes. Perhaps we are the group for you?

About the Club

We are Knox Roadrunners

We are runners of all abilities who enjoy running in a great social atmosphere. The club started in February 1987, and some of our founding members still run regularly with us. We currently have approximately 100 members ranging in age from 20 – 70+ years. The number of female runners is on the increase and now makes up approximately 40% of our membership. The majority of our members reside in the Knox area but increasingly our members are coming from further afield.

Facebook page

We have a public Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/KnoxRoadunners/  Like us and follow our activities here.  We also have a closed page for members, after you join.

Our Runs

Weekly runs start at 6am on Saturdays (rain, hail or shine) from our club rooms in Marie Wallace Park Bayswater.

Our Routes

We run on footpaths, bike tracks and trails around the Knox area, with an away run each month. See our Calendar page (check out a past calendar) for more details.

The distance

Our runs range from 10k to 35k, with distances increasing steadily between May and October in preparation for the Melbourne Marathon and Half Marathon. There are 2-3 distance options every week and supported drink stops at roughly 5 to 8 km intervals.

Our Pace

On a run, the main group will split up organically in to smaller groups running at their own pace, anywhere from 4mins/k to 6+mins/k.

Our Standard

We ask that you can confidently run 8km at 6mins/k pace, without any walking breaks, when you join us. Of course we have groups of recovering runners who may run (or walk) more slowly than this. If you currently find 6m/km challenging, give us a call and discuss your current fitness level before despairing.

Running group size

We have between 20 and 40 runners each week.

Navigation and safety

We take the safety of our members seriously. We insist that you follow road rules and look out for the wellbeing of fellow members.  Our courses are different every week and require navigation to ‘stay on course’.  You should not find yourself running on your own and we discourage it. It is every runner’s responsibility to ensure they are familiar with navigation of the course each week to avoid relying on others for directions or becoming lost. The routes are published on our Facebook page each week and are available in gpx format if you wish to download them to a navigation device.

First aid is available at each drink stop and you can transfer to the drinks car there if for any reason you cannot continue running.

Drink stops

Our runs have vehicle support providing drink stops every 5 to 8 km (approximately). As our distances increase approaching October, we have two vehicles out on the course to support the longer and shorter distances simultaneously.

Clubroom facilities

Basic shower and change facilities are available at our clubrooms along with tea and coffee after the run. Some mornings we also have a café or BBQ breakfast.

Membership cost

Membership is $60 for the first year and $45 per year thereafter. Our Saturday runs are $2.

Membership benefits

Membership includes a weekly long run (accurately measured and vehicle supported) in a welcoming, social atmosphere; post-run hot shower and tea/coffee; subsidised bus travel to major events such as Puffing Billy and Melbourne Marathon; subsidised club singlet; subsidised social events and a wealth of long distance running experience. We make an annual donation to a number of local charities.

Social events

Regular social events are held throughout the year including post-run breakfasts, weekends away to events such as GOR Marathon, annual Trivia Night and Christmas party. Our teams have had great success over the years in the Social Team category of runs such as Puffing Billy, Susan Classic, Great Ocean Road Marathon, Run for the Kids, Oxfam Trailwalker and the Melbourne Full & Half Marathon.

Well – if you want to give it a try, or are already a runner and would like to join a group, then maybe Knox Roadrunners Inc. is for you.

We hope this little bit of background entices you to give us a go. The emphasis of the club is to keep fit through running with great companionship and camaraderie. To run and have some fun along the way!
