The Knox Road Runners Olympic Dream Team
SMOKEY RUN
Our run with Smokey’s guys was one of the best yet. The new venue at Wattle Park was excellent for the run options as well as the post run breakfast.
Knox won the major event of the day, that of being last to leave. We have learned this very well from the Kew boys and have now taken it to a new level.
Greg once again produced some superb wines and Gav smoked some trout on the spot as well as adding some prawns to the BBQ.
CLUB AWARDS
A record attendance for our Christmas lunch at the Royal Hotel, Upper Ferntree Gully. The two club awards were tightly contested, but won by very worthy club members. The Best Clubperson award is now named the Leo Rooney award in recognition of our past president and life member. Leo’s wife, Deirdre presented the award to John Raskas in recognition of John’s passion for running back to pick up the slower runners.
Deirdre Rooney presents the Leo Rooney award.
The winner of the most improved award went to Nicole Diamond in recognition of her amazing improvement in her Melbourne Marathon time.
Nicole was surprised to receive the award in a year when so many runners showed great improvement.
UPCOMING RUNS
New Year’s weekend we have two runs. On Saturday 31st December we return to the Lysterfield Lake Birds Land run. This is a beautiful run and will be followed by a self-catered breakfast afterwards. There will be no support vehicle as Mike has arranged a drinks drop for us.
Then for the hearty souls who can front up after New Years Eve, there is DT & Greg’s New Years Resolution Run at Jells Park. Bring your Christmas leftovers to share for breakfast.
On Saturday 7th January we head off to Mount Martha for a pleasant Saturday morning at Vincie’s holiday house
Our summer calendar includes a series of away runs that end at a carefully selected breakfast spot. All hand chosen by Vice President Mike for the quality of their coffee.
OUR BIG BOB
![]() |
We all know what a star Big Bob is. The club recently nominated Bob for recognition by Knox Council as a local sporting hero.
He was chosen and included in a photo exhibition and a book published by the council. It has been a year of awards for Bob. He also received the Ventura award for Knox driver of the year. Congratulations Bob. We are very proud to have a champion athlete, conscientious bus driver and genuine great bloke run with us on Saturdays. |
